Imagine living in a home with no lights, no fridge, and no fan on a hot day. This is the real life of many people in The Gambia today. For many months, they have suffered from terrible power outages that make daily life very hard.
People are very tired of this big struggle because they cannot do their normal work or keep their food cold. Recently, the situation became very severe and the electricity stopped working almost completely. Because of this, many families became desperate for help and decided they could not stay quiet anymore. On Monday, thousands of angry demonstrators went to the streets to start a loud protest against the government. They blocked roads, burned old tyres, and shouted to show their anger because these long blackouts are ruining their lives. They are demanding that the government fix the power lines and bring back electricity immediately. The heavy disruption closed many local shops and schools, making the towns very quiet and dark.
In response to the anger on the streets, the president of the country asked everyone to stay calm and wait for a solution. However, the citizens want real actions, not just words, to light up their homes again.
