A resident near Williston Lake posted a short video. In the video you can see a small floating piece of land with a few trees. The piece looked like an island that emerged from the water and then disappeared again.
Later, another video showed the same floating land back on the shoreline. Scientists used a satellite picture to check the spot. The picture proved the land had disappeared and then emerged once more. Experts said the water level in the lake had risen. When the water went up, it lifted some old debris that was stuck on the bank. Trees that had grown on that debris were now free to float. The vegetation on the wood made the piece look like a tiny island. The whole event is a strange phenomenon that scientists are trying to investigate to understand the lake’s hydrology.
For now, the floating land is just a curious sight. It does not pose a danger to boats or people. The lake will keep changing as the water moves, and the odd island may appear again.
