Space Launch System

The space launch system has reached a milestone at the 7-minute 30-second mark. The engine cut off or MECO happened 84 miles out. The spacecraft is traveling more than 15,000 miles per hour. The integrity of the spacecraft is very important. The AOA is open, which means the window is now open for an abort once around option. This option would target splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The spacecraft is following a nominal ascent at this time. Dr. Oluche is talking about the maneuver the spacecraft will do when it gets to the moon.

The spacecraft is going very fast and will use the gravity of the moon to help it move. Dr. Oluche is explaining that when you are in space, you are always in an orbit. The spacecraft is on its way to the moon and will do a slingshot maneuver to get there faster. The core stage has separated from the spacecraft and the upper stage is still attached. The spacecraft is on a trajectory to the moon and everything is going as planned.

The mission to the moon is very important and will help us learn more about space and how to survive in it. The engineers and scientists are working very hard to make sure the spacecraft is safe and will work properly. The radiation in space is a big concern and the doctors are studying how it will affect the astronauts.
