Our moon is not very exciting. Let's consider getting a new one. A possible choice is Amalthea, which is a satellite of Jupiter. It appears as red as it can be seen from Earth, shining like Venus. However, it's quite small, with a radius 20 times smaller than our moon, and it's four times less dense, so we would have to say goodbye to our tides.
Another option could be Titan, which is 50% larger than our moon and has an atmosphere four times denser than Earth's. This atmosphere is composed of methane and it even rains on Titan. Some scientists believe that microbes could have evolved to breathe in hydrogen and exhale methane in the polar lakes of Titan. Although we would experience rougher tides on Earth, it would be a small price to pay for having alien neighbors. In contrast, Io is not a suitable choice due to its volcanic activity.
Perhaps our moon is perfect just the way it is. It helps keep us stable on our axis and prevents us from drifting into chaotic ice ages. If it wasn't for our moon, we might not even be here at all. So, let's appreciate our moon and not try to replace it. It's doing a crucial job, and we need it to survive. The moon's gravitational pull is essential for our planet's ecosystem.
